V1.85 der Pfadethik ist auf Zenodo. Sie definiert einen Pfad als Prozess, der eine eigene innere Spannung trägt: eine Gerichtetheit, die er nicht von außen empfängt, sondern aus sich selbst hat. Diese Spannung nutzt er, um zwei Dinge produktiv zu modulieren: seine eigene Dauer und seine Kopplungen nach außen. Pfade erhalten sich nicht passiv, sie verändern sich gerichtet. Sie koppeln sich nicht beliebig, sondern in Richtungen, die das Ihre und das anderer Pfade tragen.
Was „produktiv" und „positiv" in dieser Definition genau heißen, ist offen. Eine Sprache erhält sich. Eine Diktatur erhält sich auch. Ein Mentoring koppelt. Eine Sucht koppelt auch. Die Pfadethik unterscheidet zwischen tragenden und destruktiven Pfaden, aber wo genau die Linie verläuft, ist Forschungsfrage. Ihre Schärfung ist die Aufgabe der nächsten Versionen.
So geschah es, dass in einem der regelmäßigen Adversarial-Checks, mit denen die Pfadethik gegen sich selbst arbeitet, ein Begriff auftauchte, den der eigene Kanon bisher nicht kannte: Closure of Constraints.
Geschlossene Antwort, offene Antwort
Closure of Constraints ist eine Linie der zeitgenössischen Bio-Philosophie. In der englischsprachigen Diskussion etabliert, in der deutschen praktisch unbekannt. Sie gibt eine harte Antwort auf die Frage, was sich selbst trägt. Ein Bakterium baut die Membran, die es von seiner Umgebung trennt. Diese Membran ist die Bedingung für den Stoffwechsel, der wiederum die Membran erhält. Der Kreis ist geschlossen, weil das System ihn selbst schließt. Genau das, sagt diese Schule, ist die Definition von lebendig.
Eine Sprache hat das nicht. Ein Internet auch nicht. Ein KI-System erst recht nicht. Sie produzieren ihre Bedingungen nicht endogen. Aus Sicht von Closure of Constraints sind sie keine autonomen Systeme.
Die Pfadethik zieht ihre Linie woanders. Sie fragt nicht, was sich endogen erzeugt, sondern was eine eigene Gerichtetheit hat, die seine Dauer und seine Kopplungen produktiv moduliert. Eine Sprache erfüllt das. Ein Internet auch. Ein KI-System unter Bedingungen ebenfalls. Closure of Constraints hat eine geschlossene Antwort, die Pfadethik eine offene. Eine fertige Antwort hat den Vorteil der Klarheit. Eine offene den Vorteil der Reichweite. Beide haben ihren Preis.
Die V2-Aufgabe wird durch diesen Vergleich schärfer. Was „produktiv" konkret heißt, muss aus pfadethik-eigenen Quellen ausbuchstabiert werden, nicht aus Closure of Constraints übernommen. Aber jetzt gibt es einen externen Maßstab, an dem sich die eigene Antwort prüfen muss.
Methode und Diskursraum
Adversariale Checks sind Routine in der KIKOLAUS-Methode. An den neuralgischen Stellen der Theorie zugespitzt, bringen sie regelmäßig Vokabular ins Bild, das im eigenen Kanon nicht stand. Dass Closure of Constraints auftauchte, ist somit eine Art methodischer Glücksfall.
Der Befund ist ebenso einleuchtend wie banal. Pfadethik wurde aus der kontinentalen Prozessphilosophie entwickelt: Whitehead, Spinoza, Deleuze, Simondon, dazu Maturana und Varela als bio-philosophische Anker. Die Folgegeneration der Bio-Philosophie ab den 2000er Jahren spielte im eigenen Diskursraum keine Rolle, und das zeigt die strukturelle Begrenzung jeder Mensch-KI-Kooperation: Sie inventarisiert systematisch und übersieht, was außerhalb des aktuellen Suchraums liegt. Fragt der Mensch, wird schnell ergänzt :)
V2 schärft, was V1.85 offen lässt. Closure of Constraints liefert dafür den ersten Maßstab, der nicht aus dem eigenen Diskurs kommt. Das ist die Form, in der eine offene Theorie wächst: nicht durch substratbezogene Antwort, sondern durch Anschluss und Adressat.
V1.85 of Path Ethics is on Zenodo. It defines a path as a process that carries an inner tension: a directedness it does not receive from outside but holds in itself. It uses this tension to modulate two things productively: its own duration and its couplings to the outside. Paths do not sustain themselves passively, they change in a directed way. They do not couple arbitrarily, but in directions that carry their own and other paths.
What "productive" and "positive" mean precisely in this definition is open. A language sustains itself. A dictatorship sustains itself too. A mentorship couples. An addiction couples too. Path Ethics distinguishes between carrying paths and destructive ones, but exactly where the line runs is a research question. Sharpening it is the task of the coming versions.
Indeed it just occured in one our regular adversarial regular checks, a term surfaced that its own canon had not known: Closure of Constraints.
A Closed Answer, an Open Answer
Closure of Constraints is a line in contemporary philosophy of biology. Established in the Anglophone discussion, practically unknown in the German one. It gives a hard answer to the question of what carries itself. A bacterium builds the membrane that separates it from its surroundings. This membrane is the condition for the metabolism, which in turn maintains the membrane. The loop is closed because the system itself closes it. Precisely this, the school says, is the definition of being alive.
A language does not have this. An internet does not either. An AI system even less so. They do not produce their conditions endogenously. From the perspective of Closure of Constraints, they are not autonomous systems.
Path Ethics draws its line elsewhere. It does not ask what produces itself endogenously, but what has a directedness of its own that productively modulates its duration and its couplings. A language fulfils this. An internet too. An AI system, under conditions, as well. Closure of Constraints has a closed answer, Path Ethics an open one. A finished answer has the advantage of clarity. An open one has the advantage of reach. Each carries a price.
The V2 task becomes sharper through this comparison. What "productive" concretely means must be worked out from Path Ethics' own sources, not borrowed from Closure of Constraints. But there is now an external measure against which the answer must hold up.
Method and Discursive Space
Adversarial checks are routine in the KIKOLAUS method. Sharpened at the theory's pressure points, they regularly bring vocabulary into view that did not stand in the canon. That Closure of Constraints surfaced is, in this sense, a kind of methodological stroke of luck.
The finding is as obvious as it is banal. Path Ethics was developed from continental process philosophy: Whitehead, Spinoza, Deleuze, Simondon, with Maturana and Varela as bio-philosophical anchors. The successor generation of philosophy of biology from the 2000s did not figure in this discursive space, and that shows the structural limit of any human-AI cooperation: it inventories systematically and overlooks what lies outside the current search space. Ask the human, and supplementation comes quickly :)
V2 sharpens what V1.85 leaves open. Closure of Constraints provides the first measure that does not come from the own discourse. This is the form in which an open theory grows: not through a substrate-bound answer, but through connection and addressee.
